Always Trying Something NewJordan is at that age when she's ready to try any and everything to see if she can do it and if she likes it. That's why she filled 2014 with a lot of sports and arts.
Jordan says her favorite part of her Disney trips this year was riding all of the roller coasters. She's finally tall enough to ride them all! But she thinks adding Bailey into our family was the biggest deal of all. She's a little rough tackling him with hugs and love, but Jordan is thrilled to have a huge, fluffy dog to love. Now that she's in third grade, Jordan is old enough to attend dance classes for older kids. She's decided to specialize in hip hop and musical theater dance classes. She also continues to take piano and voice lessons. After a year of piano, Jordan has graduated from her level one book and is incredibly lucky to have a piano teacher who is developing a next-level lesson book custom-made for playing with one hand and one little arm. (Jordan can read treble and bass clef music.) We have such a great teacher. Other highlights of 2014 include Jordan playing basketball on a team |
for the first time. She absolutely LOVED it. She won some very special awards for her hard work and team spirit. Other sports experiences included another year of softball and her first time running in cross country. The kid is very fast.
Jordan got to improve her sports skills at Camp No Limits and a new camp for us, Nubability Athletics. We continue to work very hard to raise money for Camp No Limits through our website, Born Just Right. Camp No Limits has brought Jordan so much joy and a long-term connections to wonderful mentors. Our Nubability experience offered her even more special connections. She's a very lucky kid.
Jordan's birthday fundraiser is underway once again for camp. She's very close to raising $4500 to help send nine kids to camp. Jordan tries to raise enough money to send the number of kids that match her age. I'm very proud of her constant pride in our fundraising. Every dime Jordan saves goes toward camp these days. It's very sweet.
Other highlights for Jordan this year include going to Muir Woods in California and holding two different Born Just Right meetups with kids and adults with limb differences. She even met a wonderful woman who dances with an adaptive dance troop in Sacramento! We have connected with such cool folks. Additional cool points of the year: Jordan learned how to ride a bike in Maine! There were sleepovers with good friends, a doll that looks just like her, travel to Kentucky with family and meeting Santa. She also had a chance to enjoy a VIP tour of Hallmark headquarters and met Keepsake artist, Tammy Haddix, who was born with one hand. Jordan is now inspired to work for the company when she grows up.
