New Leadership, More AdventuresRandy is consistent. 2014 was focused on three wonderful things: Adventure, Music and Sports.
He and Jen started the year at the Cotton Bowl. We had a great time enjoying a big bowl with Mizzou fans while working with the KOMU crew. (Jen even helped a little bit with the online coverage.) It was a wonderful chance to spend time with some of our old classmates from Mizzou. Randy led the family chEAR team while Jen ran in the Disney World Half Marathon. It was really cool to have fun with the family during a non-standard time of the year. We usually visit during the holidays so it was nice to enjoy a less crowded time in the parks. |
In early Spring, Randy was given the chance to help with the transition into the role of News Director at KOMU-TV. Our longtime news director had a new opportunity on campus. So, like many other positions at KOMU, Randy got to learn the role months before taking over.
On September, 1, Randy officially stepped into the news director role. He's hired new newsroom staff, worked with hundreds of Mizzou journalism students and often answers thousands of emails on a weekly basis. It's a really exciting new experience after 11 years at the television station and the Missouri School of Journalism. The good news about the new gig? Randy wins all arguments. The bad news? He's responsible for those decisions.
Of course, we had our big Maine trip this year. Randy continues to take full advantage of our kayak. There are big plans to paddle around Bailey Island with Cameron next year. We were super lucky to bring our newest family member on vacation with us this year, Bailey the Goldendoodle. Randy is the hammer when it comes to the new pup while the rest of us pour adoration on top of the fuzzy dog. Experiencing Maine this year was extra fun with the a puppy around.
2014 included a lot of really good music. Randy and Jen had a chance to see the Drive By Truckers, Jason Isbell, The Avett Brothers and a really awesome collection of musicians at our local music festival, Roots and Blues and BBQ. It was extra cool to have Randy's brother, Barry, Barry's wife, Jenn, and the three coolest cousins in the world visit us during the music festival. Barry and Jenn also joined us to celebrate a big birthday for Randy in New Orleans with good friends of ours.
Randy continues to lead the Missouri chapter of the Radio Television Digital News Association and attended the Excellence in Journalism conference this year. He's also had a chance to speak and meet with a lot more leaders in our area thanks to his new role in the newsroom. He helped lead a collection of fabulous tailgates during Missouri home games. Current and former students crowded in to eat our yummy food and catch us up on their worlds. It's so much fun. The holidays and 2015 are very exciting. We had some great end of the year adventures and we're planning fun and excitement in 2015 as well.
